Eyeliner has come a long way in the beauty world. It is no longer the black pencil that always needed to be sharpened just to color in the waterline. The possibilities are growing and the cat eye is just the tip of the eye-ceburg (see what I did there?). From cat eyes to fish eyes, to colors, let’s take your eye game to the next level.

WING

Iconic, timeless, a total staple that should never be forgotten. The traditional wing liner on the upper lid changed how people viewed eyeliner. Before the liquid eyeliner and the wing were possible, coloring in the waterline was as lined as the eyes got. Thickening or thinning out the line can allow this look to have incredible versatility and continue being a user-friendly look.

CAT EYE

Now that it is established that face masks are a must-have in our skin care routine… how often are they really necessary? A general rule of thumb is 1-2 times weekly, depending on your skin’s needs. Exceeding 3 face mask uses per week can lead to dryness or redness, so monitor your skin and its needs before, during and after applying masks!

FISH EYE

Some masks come with a thin film that mimics the shape and contour of a face. Line things up appropriately, and you’ll be set. Other masks are simply a tube of thick liquid with just enough mask substance to cover a face. Most over-the-counter products give brief instructions on application and wait time, but if that information is absent, this should help! Most masks are a thick consistency that is best applied with a silicone mask brush, but your CLEAN fingers (yes, wash them please!) will do just fine. Smear the goo evenly across your face, avoiding mouth and eyes. Wait the indicated amount (or 15 minutes if not specifically stated) before either washing or peeling it off. Some masks even instruct users to remove the paper-like application and then massage the remaining liquid into the skin. Now that you’re all dewy and hydrated, smear on your favorite moisturizer and enjoy feeling super fresh!

COLOR

Any of the techniques above can be accentuated with color, adding pops here or there or even completing the whole look in color. Neon yellow, sparkle, royal blue… name it, and they probably have it. Adding a pop to the lid that matches your outfit can step up any look. Let the creativity commence.

ALL-AROUND

If the wing is your comfort zone but you’re itching to up the ante a little bit, give the all-around a try! The all-around is a combo of the fish eye and the wing. Making a bold line across the upper and lower lid and connecting them in one thick wing is how this deeply romantic look is achieved.

If you’re an eyeliner extraordinaire or a beginner, these styles can be as dramatic or as subtle as you like, completely versatile to you and your comfort level. Try something new, be bold, it’s nothing that a damp q-tip can’t fix.
