With temperatures heating up this summer, protecting your skin is more important than ever! Keeping your skin safe and healthy from the sun’s harmful rays is very important. Using high-quality products, staying hydrated, wearing protective clothing, and spending some good time in the shade is just the beginning of skin safety.

Slather the Sunscreen

While it may not be as common in your daily routine as a cleanser or moisturizer, it should be! Daily sunscreen use can be just the barrier your skin needs to avoid the rays and protect it from harmful lines, wrinkles, and sunspots that can lead to skin cancer and other issues. There are many reasons (other than just increased risk of skin cancer) to avoid the dangerous UV, premature aging, skin texture, and dryness can also occur. So sunscreen up your beautiful face (30+ SPF!), and add it to your daily routine.

Applying sunscreen to your face after cleansing and moisturizing is the way to go because adding the sunscreen pre-moisturizer can cause stickiness. While putting on sunscreen, don’t forget the rest of your skin that may see the sun. Shoulders, chest, and neck skin can be especially susceptible to sun damage and often get left out in sunscreen application.

Protective Clothing

While sunscreen is helpful, there are many reasons why one may not choose to use it. Whatever the reason may be, if the goo is not for you, rather than burn to a crisp, opt for some sun-protective clothing. Breathable, lightweight, summer clothes made specifically to assist in blocking the rays and keeping the sun off you. Using a rashguard-type shirt or even just wearing a hat can assist in keeping the sun out of your eyes, off of your face, and sunscreen-free.

Staying Hydrated

If neither sunscreen nor protective clothing are your jam and you’re determined to embrace those rays, then at the very least avoid long, extended bouts in the sun, such as tanning sessions. Also, STAY HYDRATED. Keeping up your water intake can be a great way to keep yourself from getting dehydrated, which will only cause more lines and wrinkles. Skin that is hydrated remains more plump and who doesn’t want plump skin?

Whichever process you choose to protect yourself from the sun is fine as long as you do protect yourself from it. The long-lasting damage the sun can cause is no joke and should be taken seriously. Adding a new product into your daily summer routine may take a minute to get accustomed to, but it is worth it.
