As fall wraps up and the chilly weather arrives, it is time to pivot our looks. Fall is great for mauves, browns, golds, and greens, but winter is all about cool tones. Incorporating new colors, new application techniques, and some hairstyles into your winter arsenal is just what you need to welcome those cooler temperatures.

Color Changes

Eyes

Out with the brown, and in with black! Goth girlies, this one is for you. Smokey eyes are a favorite – no matter the season! – but to really winterize it, try black and silver instead of brown and gold. Purples and blues are great accent colors, too. If a black smokey eye is a bit too dramatic for your taste, don’t worry! A simple, light blue or lavender is enough to make it pop without overdoing it at parties with family and friends.

Lips

With our black, smokey eyes bringing the majority of our depth, we can afford to lighten up our lips a bit this season. This fall was all about lip drama – red, maroon, and purple hues. This winter we’re going for light, natural, and moist! The winter is bound to dry out the lips, and comfort is taking priority this holiday season. Lather on your favorite gloss with a hint of color, and you’re good to go.

Blush

Moving away from the peaches of summer and the mauves of fall, we are going in with a cranberry blush hue this season. Fitting, right? If you’re weary to try such a dark cheek color, any muted brown/red tone will do!

Application Techniques

The foundation tricks for this winter are definitely ones to take note of! We’ve had the matte phase, then the dewy phase, then the bb cream sheer phase, but this season? We’re layering, baby!! Full coverage on blemishes, a matte formula on the T-zone (or any of your more oily areas), and a sheer, dewy look for the rest. Our faces require different products for different areas, so why not apply it that way? The layering technique is sure to help combat the dry air and greasy food.

Hairstyles

Let your locks flow! That is the name of the game this season. If you have long hair, let it down! Curled or straight – it doesn’t matter, just keep it long and down. Not your vibe? Spiky pixie cuts, as well as dark chocolate and purple colors, are also in.

Winter is a fun time to switch up your routine, explore new colors, and maybe even change up your foundation techniques. New seasons bring new opportunities. Hey, we can still look fabulous even if we’re freezing!
